Street View in UK given thumbs up
Google’s controversial Street View service can finally be launched in the UK after a privacy watchdog said there had been no complaints about it. There was talk of Street View being blocked by people who claimed it infringed civil liberties.
A few weeks ago I wrote about how the Daily Mail branded it ‘almost criminal’ and claimed it was a ‘burglars charter’.
But now, the Daily Mail’s campaign to ban the Google car has failed.
The Independent Commissioner’s Office has said that Google have put in place
“adequate safeguards to avoid any risk to the privacy or safety of individuals…(including) the blurring of vehcile registration marks and the faces of anyone included in street view images.”
