Bloggle : An unofficial Google Blog

5 September 2008

This blog has a lot of Chrome users!

Despite the Google Analytics blog claiming that Chrome usage stats wouldn’t be available in Analytics for a while, they have now announced that in fact stats are available.

As you can see, this blog seems to have a very unusual breakdown of browser usage with Chrome managing a huge 32.04%. On Bloggle at least it seems that all Chrome’s market share has come at the expense of Firefox…in August Firefox’s share on Bloggle was 72% and now it has been reduced to 36%. Admittedly these are early days for Chrome and market share will be up for a while because everyone is testing out the new browser - but it does certainly seem like a lot of people are trying it out and if they like what they see, quite a few might adopt Chrome as their permanent browser.

It must also be noted that a 72% share for Firefox in August is not normal and means that this blog doesn’t just have ‘average’ users reading it (of course!). Therefore I would expect Chrome usage to be higher here than normal.

Do you think the future is rosy for Chrome or will the excitement soon die down? Tell us in the comments.

Ross says:

I think it’s going to take some (possibly short?) time for the community to build their own extensions to Chrome.

Google’s documentation and APIs are usually some of the best though, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the future is *very* bright for Chrome and it could overtake Firefox/Opera as “the alternative browser”. Especially with all the amazing press it’s getting in just a couple of days!

Dave Shaw says:

Hopefully it won’t be long. Since its all open source I assume that means it won’t take long at all for people to add on to Chrome.

Certainly has had a lot of press - equivalent to something like Apple releasing a new product.
