Google postpones birthday because no-one “feels like cake”

For the past few days, the blogosphere has been full of stories on Google’s 10th birthday. I even put a post here on Bloggle commenting on how far (or not) Google had come in the last ten years. Well September 7 came and went without fanfare. There was no special birthday logo like Google has had in the past.
How come?
Well Search Engine Roundtable provided the answer pointing us to Google’s help files which explains about Google’s birthday:
Google opened its doors in September 1998. The exact date when we celebrate our birthday has moved around over the years, depending on when people feel like having cake.
In the past Google has also celebrated its birthday on the 27th September. Apparently people feel like eating cake on either day. Since cake was not eaten on the 7th (because it was a Sunday?) perhaps they’ll eat it on the 27th (a Saturday). Or perhaps it will be a different day altogether.
Humourous uses of the phrase “have their cake and eat it” and its variations will be showcased.

Great post and great blog idea overall. Always interesting to hear about the big G (future world dominator). Sad that they didn’t celebrate 10th birthday yet. Google has done a lot for the web (in most cases good, in some… well, not so good)
