Earlier today The Inquirer reported that Google was to acquire Valve. I didn’t report it because I wasn’t entirely sure how real this story might be. However a few moments ago TechCrunch blogged it and I suspect they wouldn’t have mentioned it if they felt there was no truth in it.
According to The Inquirer:
WELL PLACED SOURCES tell us that Google is going to be buying Valve any second now. If you have to stop and think about why, you probably are not aware of Steam, Valve’s amazing content distribution platform.
At first this acquisition might seem extremely unlikely, however Valve does have one of the best content distribution platforms in Steam. But if Google did buy Valve, what exactly would it distribute through Steam? More games or would games become just one of the many categories of apps that Google would offer?
Certainly this acquisition would be a bold move for Google. Too bold? With Chrome, it seems that at the moment Google is prepared to be more bold than ever.
If you are a gamer, would you like to see this happen? Would you like Half Life 3 to be made by…Google?
