Today Google announced special treatment for pirates in the form of a pirate language search at Google.com.
It recently came to our attention that Google was not accessible to a large, influential, and notoriously quick-tempered community: Pirates. As of today we are proud and rather relieved to announce that Google Search is available in Pirate.
But should Google (as a responsible company) be encouraging pirating as a vocation in these enlightened times? Are Google right to show preferential treatment to minorities such as pirates? True, other minorities such as Klingons are also catered for, but there are countless others that aren’t.
In order to justify their position, Google have claimed their new search is a direct result of an increase in pirate related searches at this time of year and therefore is congruous with the company aim of providing a better user experience.
As you can see from this graph of the popularity of related searches from past years, we have reason to believe that this might be a timely addition.
However, looking at the graph above, perhaps Google’s intentions are far more altrustic and fit in with their desire to be a green company. Clearly, statistics show that the solution to the world’s environmental problems will be easily solved by an increase in the pirate population. I therefore wholeheartedly salute Google’s effort in supporting this noble cause.
