Street View, Wiimote combine for a reason to finally exercise

Street view location courtesy of streetviewfun.com
An exceedingly clever Japanese man has combined the two great tastes of Google Maps Street View and a Nintendo Wiimote to create an amazing “jogging sim” (Is this a new genre?) where you can jog through the Street View location of your choice. The “jogging” works by putting the wiimote in your pocket, which then registers the up and down movement of running on the spot (or using a stepping machine if you’re really into masochism “fitness”) to move you forwards through the Street Maps world.
The creator, Ryo Katsuma, has put up a handy video (in Japanese) to show the system in action. No longer do you have to brave the dangers of the outside world to see wondrous sights such as GIANT LOBSTERS on your daily jog. Even better, he has very kindly also put the Java code on Google Code if you feel like having a go yourself. I might even do this myself when/if Google get around to bothering to release Street View in the UK (ok, so we know they’re working on it really). Come on Google!
